Puppy Foundations Programme FAQ

What age should my puppy start training?

Puppies can start as young as 8 weeks old. Since sessions are 1:1 in your own home, there's no need to wait for a full vaccination course to begin. Starting early means we can build good habits around things like toileting, biting and house manners from the outset, which is far easier than trying to undo bad habits once they've become established.

Do you come to my house, or do I need to travel?

All sessions are home visits, delivered across Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Gateshead. Training in your own home and local environment means your puppy learns in the place that actually matters to your day to day life.

What does the Puppy Foundations Programme cover?

Sessions focus on the essentials: toilet training, biting and chewing, socialisation, and building the training foundations you'll need as your puppy grows. Everything is force-free and based on current, science-led training methods.

Is this suitable for any breed?

Yes. The programme is designed around your individual puppy's needs and temperament, whatever the breed.

How old is too old for the Puppy Foundations Programme?

The programme is aimed at puppies up to five months old. After that, my Teen Dog Support service picks up where puppy training leaves off.

What qualifications do you have?

I'm ABTC-registered as an Animal Training Instructor and PACT-certified, and I'm currently working towards my Animal Behaviour Technician qualification through PACT.

Teen Dog Support
(6 months+)

1:1 in-home training support for adolescent dogs

1:1 Package: 4 x 1hr Sessions

When your dog stops listening and nothing you try seems to work, it can feel like you're going round in circles, especially on walks, when recall disappears, or they seem completely switched off outside the house.

You’re not stuck, you just need a different approach.

Whether it’s jumping up, pulling on the lead, running off at the park, or struggling to settle at home, these behaviours usually make sense when you understand what’s driving them. And that’s where we start.

How It Works:

Before we start, I’ll ask you to complete a questionnaire, so I arrive already understanding your dog and your situation.

  • Session 1 - We look at what's driving your dog's behaviour, what's proving difficult, and where to start.

  • Sessions 2 to 4 - We build practical strategies that work in real life, improving communication and helping your dog make better choices in everyday situations.

What’s Included:

✔4 x 1-hour in-home sessions

✔ Detailed pre-session questionnaire so we hit the ground running

✔ Personalised training plan tailored to your dog's specific challenges

✔ Step-by-step guidance so you feel confident practising between sessions

✔ Email support available between sessions for any questions

What happens after the programme?

Training doesn’t stop when the programme ends.

As your dog grows and new challenges crop up, you might like a little extra support. Whether you'd like to build on the progress you've made or work through something new, follow-on sessions are available whenever you need them.

Follow-on session options

  • 1 × 1-hour session – £75

  • 2 × 1-hour sessions – £140

"Highly recommend Fiona. I have a very sociable six month old puppy. So much so, that playing with other dogs was far more fun than coming back when called. That and pulling when on a lead was becoming problematic."

"Fiona was able to break the training down into small steps that were super easy to follow. My dog absolutely loved our sessions as did I."

- Tammy & Leia (The French Bulldog)

Teen Dog Support

Teen Dog Support FAQ

My puppy has turned into a nightmare, is this normal?

Completely normal. Adolescence (usually from around 6 to 18 months, depending on breed) often brings a temporary dip in listening skills, more independence, and sometimes new training or arousal issues. Teen Dog Support is built specifically for this stage.

What's the difference between this and the Puppy Foundations Programme?
Teen Dog Support picks up once your puppy is past five months old and moving into adolescence. It addresses the specific challenges of this age, alongside continued training foundations.

Do you help with hyper or hard to calm down teenage dogs?

Yes, this is exactly the kind of thing Teen Dog Support is built for, within my scope as an Animal Training Instructor. If a case involves fear, anxiety or aggression, or if your dog has snapped or bitten, that's out of my training remit. You can find help from a Clinical Animal Behaviourist on the ABTC website.

Do you offer home visits for this service too?

Yes, all Teen Dog Support sessions are delivered as home visits across Newcastle, North Tyneside and South Tyneside.

Will my dog grow out of this stage?

Most dogs do settle as they move into adulthood, but the habits formed during adolescence tend to stick. Getting support now makes that transition smoother.
